The inspiration for this project comes from the vibrant and culturally rich neighborhood of Harlem. The posters are designed to resonate with the residents by incorporating a Harlem vibe. Influenced by pop art and design styles, the posters feature visually engaging graphics and illustrations.
Each poster in the campaign includes a brand lock-up and a variety of illustrated icons representing different services offered by Harlem Health Advocacy Partners, such as medical, social, educational, and job-related services. The use of visual icons helps communicate the program's offerings in a clear and easily understandable way.
The posters were created using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop. The digital designs and illustrations were then printed in a poster size of 24 x 30 inches.
One main campaign poster showcases all the illustrated icons, while individual posters featuring zoomed-in icons are distributed to the public. This approach allows for focused promotion of each specific service provided by Harlem Health Advocacy Partners.
Jiaqi Song conducted extensive research to understand the needs of the Harlem community and to ensure the posters effectively communicate the messaging of the campaign. The challenge was to strike a balance between clear messaging and visually appealing design that captures the essence of Harlem.
The Harlem Advocacy posters successfully convey the services provided by Harlem Health Advocacy Partners in a lively and compelling way. The pop art style and evocative graphic elements used in the design not only communicate the services clearly but also attract attention from the target audience.
This project was completed in New York City, starting in June 2017 and finishing in September 2017. The Harlem Advocacy posters were recognized for their creativity and ingenuity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2021. This award acknowledges designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence while contributing to quality of life improvements.
